Employment Law and What We Can Expect in 2025
As we step into 2025, major employment law reforms are set to reshape workplace rights, wages, and employer responsibilities. From expanded parental leave and mandatory pay gap reporting to the much-anticipated "right to disconnect," these changes are designed to address key issues like pay equity, job security, and work-life balance. While some initiatives will take years to be fully implemented, others—such as wage increases and neonatal care leave—are scheduled to take effect this year. Inspirework outlines the key legislative updates that employers and employees should prepare for in the months ahead. The national minimum wage increase is set to take effect on 1 April 2025. The national living wage will rise by £0.77 to £12.21 per hour. For 18-20-year-olds, the minimum wage will increase by £1.40 to £10.00 per hour, while for 16-17-year-olds, it will rise by £1.15 to £7.55 per hour. National Minimum Wage Increase These changes align with the government’s guidelines, with the national living wage reaching its highest real value in the history of the UK’s minimum wage. Notably, the increase in the 18-20-year-old rate reduces the gap with the national living wage, paving the way for the adult rate to potentially extend to 18-year-olds in the future.
